Rheal Cormier to start final home game

Moncton hosts Fredericton in senior baseball doubleheader
Former major league pitcher Rheal Cormier of St-Andre will make his first start at home for the Moncton Mets tomorrow in what will be his final appearance of the season at Kiwanis Park.
Cormier (2-1) will start the nightcap of a New Brunswick Senior Baseball League doubleheader against the Fredericton Royals. The opener is set for 2 p.m. and the second game will follow at 7 p.m.
Cormier, who is playing with Moncton to warm up his arm to pitch for Canada at the Summer Olympics in Beijing, China in August, will have his number retired on the Kiwanis Park outfield fence by the Mets prior to the start of the second game.
He will be the second Moncton player to have his number retired, joining Mets founder, former player and current vice-president of baseball operations Ralph Chambers.
After Cormier's two innings of work tomorrow night, he will sign autographs down the leftfield line as his Mets baseball card will be available. Fans will also be able to sign a banner wishing Cormier good luck at the Olympics between the games and also at the area Cormier will be signing autographs during the second game.
Two specials prize draws will be held, one for an autographed Cormier Mets jersey and the other for an autographed Cormier Team Canada jersey.
Cormier, who played 16 seasons in the majors, will wind down his season with the Mets with road games in Nova Scotia July 12-13 and in Saint John July 17 before leaving to join Team Canada July 19.
The Royals will make their first appearance of the season at Kiwanis Park tomorrow. They sit in first place with a 12-2 record while the Mets are second at 11-8. Fredericton has won all three meetings against Moncton this season, including last night's 2-1 home victory.
Luc Daigle (4-0) will start the opener for the Mets tomorrow.
Tomorrow night is also minor ball night as the local area minor baseball associations will be part of the special ceremonies at Kiwanis Park.
