Regatta set for Shediac Bay

Annual regatta is benefit for Able Sail, a program on Shediac Bay for people with disabilities

SHEDIAC - Able Sail will host the Atlantic Canada District 1 laser championship at the Shediac Bay Yacht Club this weekend.

The event is part of the annual Subway Open Invitational one- design small boat regatta.

The laser championship will feature laser 1, laser radial and master laser for participants over 35 years of age.

The regatta is also for bytes, opties, 420s, 29ers and 49ers.

The regatta is also the third circuit race of the N.B. Sailing Association to make up the N.B. sailing team for the Canada Summer Games next summer.

The annual regatta, which has been sponsored by Subway for the past eight years, is for the benefit of Able Sail, a program on Shediac Bay for persons with disabilities.

Upwards of 60 boats are expected for the two-day (tomorrow and Sunday) event. Boats are coming from the Atlantic provinces, Quebec and the U.S. east coast.

Registration takes place tomorrow at the Shediac Bay Yacht Club at 9 a.m. with skippers meeting and racing to begin at 11 a.m. on both days.
