TORONTO - Over 50 contemporary artworks by five up-and-coming Canadian artists - finalists for the 2008 Sobey Art Award - will be displayed at the Royal Ontario Museum from Aug. 27 to Oct. 13.

Paintings, sculptures, performance art, video installations and photography will be included in the exhibit.

The award finalists are Tim Lee of Vancouver, Daniel Barrow of Winnipeg, Terence Koh of Mississauga, Ont., Raphaelle de Groot of Montreal and Mario Doucette of Moncton, N.B.

"The award exhibition is our opportunity to introduce new audiences to some of the best young Canadian artists working today," said Ray Cronin, director and CEO of the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia which organizes the Sobey Art Award, presented annually to an artist under age 40.

Curatorial advisers selected artists from five regions - Atlantic, Quebec, Ontario, Prairies and the North, and West Coast - for the shortlist. The winner will be announced Oct. 1.
