QUEBEC - A mass composed by iconic Quebec troubadour Gilles Vigneault will be premiered at the Quebec Festival of Sacred Music.

The 79-year-old poet and singer-songwriter says the idea to write a mass was rooted in his childhood.

"It was the only true ceremony which I was allowed to attend as a young boy," Vigneault says.

The festival, running from Oct. 23 to Nov. 2, traditionally presents a wide range of sacred music, from gospel to Gregorian chant and Corsican polyphonies.

The opening concert for this year's 12th edition features counter-tenor Daniel Taylor and his Theatre of Early Music, as well as Coleman Lemieux & Compagnie.
