Green Car of the Year to be announced at L.A. auto show

The winner of the 2009 Green Car of the Year award will be announced Nov. 20 during the Los Angeles Auto Show's press days. Green Car Journal, an automotive environmental magazine, initiated the annual award in 2005 and it has continued to grow in significance as buyer demand for more fuel-efficient and environmentally positive vehicles has increased. The award is designed to recognize environmental achievement in the

automotive industry. Last year, the Chevrolet Tahoe Hybrid was named the 2008 Green Car of the Year.

Environmental car insurance available

The California Department of Insurance wants drivers to drive less, save money and save the planet, all at the same time. California Insurance Commissioner Steve Poizner said he's planning to make a new environmentally friendly automobile insurance option, known as "pay-as-you-go," available to California drivers as early as the fall of next year by proposing new regulations that will adjust rates based on the distance driven. Drive less and you pay less. Other insurers take note.
